OUR STORY

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

KUA WAS BORN IN THE SUMMER OF 2015 IN THE SPRAWLING TOWNSHIP OF SOWETO ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF JOHANNESBURG. WHAT STARTED AS A FEW WEEKS LIVING WITH A FAMILY IN SOWETO AND COLLABORATING WITH ENTREPRENEURS TRYING TO PROVIDE FOR THEIR FAMILIES LED TO FIVE HARVARD BUSINESS SCHOOL CLASSMATES FOUNDING AN ONLINE INCUBATOR FOR MICRO AND SMALL BUSINESSES IN AFRICA. OVER EIGHT YEARS THIS HAS GROWN INTO AN ADVISORY BUSINESS THAT ENABLES BOTH FOR-PROFIT AND NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS OPERATING IN EMERGING MARKETS TO BUILD STRATEGIC, HIGH-IMPACT GLOBAL BUSINESSES.

TEAM

In 2015, Adam founded the advisory firm Kua Partners, serving small and medium enterprises in South Africa, North Africa and the Middle East to help them grow revenue, profitability, and impact. Adam has led advisory services for 30+ small businesses, including taking a virtual realty ed-tech startup from idea stage to having a multi-country footprint and a roadmap for profitability. Adam also led a global sports company through change management as well as numerous entrepreneurs through product design and iteration, building strategic partnerships, supply chain development, and inbound marketing strategy.

Adam stood-up the standalone battery energy storage development business unit at Hexagon Energy, a renewable energy startup. He led market analysis and entry strategy, community and landowner outreach, site selection and acquisition, project financial analysis and design, energy and financial modeling, interconnection, permitting, and project management. Adam has managed both utility scale and distributed generation standalone energy storage projects in New York, the Midwest, Texas and California.

Prior to joining Hexagon Adam served as a Principal at Rookwood Partners, where he launched a new acquisition and investment fund for distressed real estate assets across the mid-Atlantic, built a proprietary deal origination process and led re-development efforts for mixed-use commercial real estate projects.

Adam served 10 years as a United States Coast Guard Officer in operations and finance, including serving as Commanding Officer of an 87’ Cutter in search and rescue and homeland security operations where he protected President Obama on six missions as Patrol Commander and earned the Coast Guard Commendation Medal for Superior Command Performance. Adam also served as Deputy Comptroller of the USCG Finance Center, where he led a 15-person comptroller department in support of 500+ employees for the execution of $11 Billion in annual payments and collections as well as annual financial reporting for government agencies with budgets totaling over $21 Billion.

Adam has an MBA from Harvard Business School where he graduated with honors, and a B.S., Summa cum laude, in Management from the US Coast Guard Academy.
